Best Vegan Drinks
If you’re vegan or partially vegan, you’ll be well aware of what a struggle it can be to order food or drink when you’re out and about. There are some restaurants, cafes, and chains that are great for this, and others that aren’t so good. How do you know what to order when you go somewhere? We’re going to look at some best vegan drink options in 2021.
What Are Vegan Drinks?
Vegan drinks are any drink that doesn’t contain animal products, including dairy, eggs, honey, and gelatin. Many drinks and foods are already vegan, but it’s nice to have a reminder. If you’re vegan and live in a city that has excellent vegan shops and restaurants, you will know that it can be hard to know where to go and what to eat. Where do you go for your raw vegan smoothies? Where do you go for your steak sandwich?
Where do you go for your mushroom risotto? Fortunately, vegan shops have an answer. For example, I’m a big fan of Tender Greens, and the Asian option is always good. Vegans can even get all their supplies online now. These drinks can range from alternative milk or soy or rice milk, which you can add to any of your favourite non-dairy beverages, to nut milk and even fruit milk and drinks for children.
The best vegan drinks can also be dairy-free and have become considered healthy drinks in many cases. There are many drinks in the vegan world, all of which have a vegan, non-dairy, or plant-based alternative. More unusual and exotic options might be coconut water, avocado, coconut oil, coconut milk, almond milk, or beet juice.
These are mainly for vegans trying to maintain a “natural” diet, as the names may suggest. The most common options are soy and rice milk alternatives, but there are many other exciting things out there.
Benefits Of Vegan Drinks
Just because you’re vegan doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a drink from time to time. They’re all drinks, and there are some benefits to having a varied diet. They are not a replacement for meat and dairy, but there are other benefits to some drinks. Offers Plenty of Heart-Healthy Vitamins and Minerals. All of the veggies and fruits you eat help to boost your vitamin and mineral intake. This helps keep your body feeling well and healthy.
Plant-based foods also contain healthy fats that can help to prevent disease. You’re Going to Have a Lot of Tea. Whether you’re a tea drinker or not, there are many different varieties of tea that are vegan-friendly. This includes oolong, green, black, herbal, and white tea. Some of the most popular brands include Twinings, Grandpas and Darjeeling. Not only does vegan-friendly food and drink provide a range of options, but it can also help you cut down on your animal product intake, saving you money and providing a healthier lifestyle.
For vegetarians, there are also a number of non-dairy options you can get on the market. Supporting local businesses – You can get your hands on amazing products at your local health food store, as well as many vegan cafes and restaurants. Lots of choices – Nowhere do it better than vegan or vegetarian food and drink. From milkshakes, fizzy drinks, and cereal bars, to salad and sandwiches, there’s a lot to choose from.
A lot of places have started to offer vegan options for those with a choice. You don’t need to automatically expect them, but if you do decide to order one, you’re not going to have a bad experience. There are many benefits to ordering vegan drinks:
- You’re supporting small independent businesses,
- You’re not contributing to animal agriculture,
- You’re eating healthier,
- You’re supporting the environment, and
- You’re taking your car off the road.
If you’re vegan, then it’s your responsibility to do all you can to get the best vegan food and drink possible, and avoiding meat and dairy will help to improve your overall health and your well-being. Vegan drinks are generally healthier than non-vegan ones. Though, they’re not necessarily the healthiest drinks in the world, either. They’re definitely better than straight fruit juices or low-calorie drinks, but not much better than straight water.
But that’s not the biggest advantage. Vegan drinks are a way to save on your weekly shop. That’s right, they save you money on your weekly shop. Vegan foods are often cheaper and can cost up to half the price of meat alternatives, in certain countries. So if you want to save money, go for vegan drinks. Also, you’re not wasting your time. Vegan drinks are better for you, too. The antioxidants in vegan drinks help fight the effects of air pollution. Plus, there are also the extra benefits of eating fewer meat products, or animal products.
Steamed Apple Juice
Apple juice (or apple cider, etc) is a brilliant drink. It’s not incredibly hydrating but the apple will certainly help with weight loss and as a result, you’re reducing your need for solid food (hence the title). There are a couple of different approaches. Some are very heavy, with all the sugar you can eat (“healthy” eating is easy, vegan). Others are sweeter, often because they are using apple juice concentrate, or are using apple juice in conjunction with milk products.
Some make them by themselves, some use them as an ingredient to make food. An apple juice that contains enough sugar to produce whipped cream, but without the dairy, makes for a really tasty drink. The apples themselves help to stop your sweet tooth from developing, so the drink is perfect for those who are trying to eat from Pure Organic Superfood Drink.
If you haven’t come across Pure Organic Superfood Drink yet, you’ve been missing out. They make a range of 100% plant-based superfood drinks, including Apple Juice and Ginger, and you can get them for £2.79 for 350ml at Tesco.
Apple juice is the perfect drink for you if you’re vegan, as it contains no dairy or eggs, and is widely available. It’s also a great way to get your fruit and veg quota done early in the day. It’s quite difficult to find vegan versions though, especially for tea, so the best thing to do is to stock up on apple juice from the supermarket.
Simply boil some water in the kettle, throw in a whole apple, pop in a cup, add some apple juice, a straw and you’re sorted. You’ll see apples on the menu at so many bars and cafes, and they’ll be served in so many ways, like apple juice or a juice cocktail. If you’re vegan you can now enjoy apples straight from the tree with very little effort on your part.
Steamed apple juice is a delicious alternative to juice if you’re lactose intolerant, it has fibre and a low-calorie count. It’s also a great pick for vegans with allergies or sensitivity, as it doesn’t contain any dairy or eggs. If you fancy something different try this steamed apple juice with coconut nectar and kombucha, we’re sure it’ll taste just as good.
Matcha Green Tea Latte
There’s been a huge growth in the popularity of green tea over the past few years, and it’s not going to stop. Matcha is the one that you may have seen in the news, as health-conscious people are embracing this “superfood”. Put the matcha powder in a large saucepan with 500ml of cold water. Bring to the boil then simmer for 20 minutes.
Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly. While the matcha is cooling, mix the almond milk, cinnamon, ginger powder, salt, and nutmeg together in a bowl. Once the matcha has cooled, pour it into the bowl with the almond milk mixture and stir until everything is combined. If you’re into green tea and you’re even more into matcha, then there’s nothing better than a matcha green tea latte.
You’ll find it at a lot of places, so make sure to check it out. It’s green! (The taste, not the colour). When it comes to the drinks on this list, green is usually the colour of choice. The green tea latte is the drink to order if you’re ordering a latte or cappuccino. It tastes pretty much exactly the same as a regular black or green tea latte but has a subtle but distinct taste of green tea.
The weather might be freezing but that doesn’t mean you can’t have an iced drink. Some people have found that a matcha green tea latte really does suit them – it’s also considered healthy. There was a period of time when green tea wasn’t cool, but then came the matcha green tea latte. The popularity of this drink seems to have caused matcha (tea made from the leaf of a southeast Asian plant) to be added to the non-alcoholic drink menu of a whole host of well-known coffee shops.
The sugary syrup of a latte adds to the sweet appeal, but the added crunch from the matcha in the drink makes it refreshing. Who wouldn’t want a refreshing drink that tastes like chocolate but doesn’t have calories? One part matcha green tea latte to one part fresh black coffee. Choose coconut milk or soy milk and no foam. All you need to add to this is milk or coconut milk, or soy milk. Add a splash of non-dairy milk, or herbal.
Plain-Brewed Coffees And Teas
Plain-brewed coffees and teas. This is what the biggest and most popular coffee chains are offering and it’s certainly the healthiest way to drink your morning coffee. What is so good about these? Well, the ingredients used are either plant-based milk or no dairy at all, and while you have to get used to the extra calories, it can taste good, plus you get the benefits of milk. If you’re a regular coffee drinker, you’ll be aware of most of these brands, but if you’re not, then you’ll have to start checking them out.
Espresso pods are quite mainstream and a good way to get the taste of traditional coffee, without the calories. Lattes are another popular choice with many, but there are a few brands that have more vegan options available. There are a lot of great places around the UK that do great coffee – they make great tea as well. Two brands you should try for plain coffee or tea are Dermalogica and Pure Activ. Dermalogica makes coconut and jojoba infused natural or herbal tea that tastes delicious and isn’t full of chemicals. Pure Activ is coconut-made.
The universal food and drink favourite. It's hard to go wrong with a good Americano. The best way to make this drink is by using a bitter-tasting simple syrup (St-Germain, Bitter Lemon). A coffee shop staple is a great option if you’re feeling like an afternoon coffee. The range of options is broad though, as you have lattes, flat whites, Americanos and cortados, along with a range of non-caffeinated options.
A customer favourite, coffee is also great for sourcing protein from the beans, with some nut milk like cashew and rice offering a great protein boost. When people think of veganism, they often think of milk-based beverages, so for this one, we’re going to assume you can’t have any dairy or milk products in your diet. This drink is a simple one. You can ask for it “hot,” “cold,” “no sweetener,” or “extra sweet.”
It will taste like the normal caffè americano you know and love. When it comes to having a cup of coffee, most places have a selection of vegan options, from soy milk to almond milk and even coconut milk. But it isn’t always easy to know which option is the best. Starbucks may have a large vegan following, and they do offer a soy and almond option for their Americanos.
But they also have a huge selection of food options, and there are still many other vegan bars and restaurants across the country. So why not try the options on the Starbucks menu? We’ve seen it time and time again, places that do offer a good range of food and drink options end up being vegan friendly. Just check out the menus carefully, and you may find you’re able to have a great cup of coffee and enjoy some food.
Iced Passion Tango Tea
Passion Tango Teas does an excellent job of making iced teas (aka frosés) from fruit juices and your favourite flavours. For an indulgent summer drink, give one of these fruity drinks a try. You won’t be disappointed. Try it: (www.passiontangotea.com). As soon as I am served iced passion tea I know the place will be great for me. As someone who has to add milk to my tea, iced tea is a godsend for people like me.
I love tea but sometimes it can be a bit… watery. It can be so disappointing to be handed a cup of tea that has absolutely no flavour. But I’m sure I’ll be drinking my tea with an extra shot of sugar at most iced teas in the future. The cool thing about this drink is that it is totally vegan, with no milk, no cream, no nuts. It’s really just water and passion tea powder. You can get a 10cl bottle for about £1.90.
Tea is a great option when you’re trying to avoid dairy or animal products, and there are some great vegan tea choices out there that will be vegan in 2021. However, teas aren’t exactly the most exciting drink options, and sometimes, you just want to order something a bit more interesting. In 2021, one of the most exciting vegan drinks you’ll be able to order is iced passion tango tea.
This is because they’ll be one of the first drinks that are completely vegan in the UK. This is because they’ll use black tea and cane sugar instead of dairy milk. Tea isn’t the only thing they’ll be using though, as they’ll also be using almond milk as well. This is because it’ll be produced using almond milk rather than cow’s milk, and it won’t contain any animal products.
Nitro Cold Brew
Nitro Cold Brews are really popular with vegans right now, thanks to their smooth and delicious taste. They’re typically served in a cone or a paper cup and usually with a different topping to what you get in traditional coffee shops. The method of preparation varies from drink to drink and they tend to be quite concentrated which means they taste more robust than normal coffee but less sweet.
Many brands now use organic and Fair Trade coffee. They are usually prepared in vacuum-sealed bags or in very small mugs. You may have tried a Nitro Cold Brew from a regular coffee shop and found the drink undrinkable as it can be quite overpowering.
This is why you need to try one if you haven’t already. Because you can’t have your morning joe without any gluten, nitro cold brew is a tasty alternative. It’s cold, frothy, creamy, and has a fruity flavour. Ground Up Coffee Roasters is a Melbourne-based coffee chain that offers a fantastic selection of cafes, filters, cold-brew coffee, and a range of frozen beverages.
Their custom nitro cold-brew coffee is incredibly creamy and creamy, with just the right amount of bite and carbonation to be delicious. Ground Up is particularly noted for its nitro cold-brew coffees, and we have no doubt they’ll continue to make this style their most popular and best-selling brew. In Japan, there is a chain called Suntory. They have recently introduced a nitro cold-brew coffee in Australia, and the Australians love it.
This should be available in Australia, and it will be sold at all Ground Up Coffee Roasters cafes and online. Possibly the most popular drink in the world at the moment, there’s a reason it’s the number one most Instagrammed item ever. Everyone wants to try it, but they don’t know where to get it. This is where you come in. It’s easily available at most coffee chains around the world, and it’s absolutely perfect if you like your coffee hot and your nitrogen cold.
Iced Pineapple Matcha Drink
This drink is sure to go down a treat with any vegan out there. It’s not too sweet, just a great combination of sweet and tangy. Iced Pineapple is packed with sweet and tangy pineapple chunks, it has a bit of a lime tang to it as well, making it perfect to cool down when the sun is out, or as a palate cleanser when you’ve had a big dinner.
This is a great choice for anybody that is on the fence about trying it, because of the funky pineapple taste, and it’s got the added bonus of a caffeine boost, as well as not being full of sugar. This can be enjoyed in summer, and especially during BBQs, you can use this to give any drink a little extra zing, and it’s a great option for adding a little tropical twist to any drink. If you’re in Australia, look no further than Porto-Bloom.
This little cafe chain has an amazing range of vegan food and drink, and it’s easy to navigate the menu. They have a range of iced fruit or vegetable drinks available – I love their Pineapple Matcha. It’s sweet, refreshing, and naturally hydrating – and the pineapple makes it deliciously sweet without it being too sweet. It’s perfect for hot days, especially when you’re out for brunch with your friends and they want to order dessert (which will most likely be cake).
A popular drink of choice for the vegan crowd, this is an iced Pineapple Matcha tea. It’s pretty similar to the flavour of green tea but has a creamy consistency. It is packed with nutrients, so not only is it great for your body but also your taste buds! It doesn’t come from an animal and doesn’t take much dairy to make (so it’s vegan!) There are loads of flavours to choose from and you can buy them from Amazon.
It’s not all doom and gloom for vegans. We know they’re an increasingly large and influential section of society, and as time goes on we’ll continue to see more and more companies offering vegan options. These are the best drinks you can buy in stores in 2021.
