9 Best Vegan Cookie Brands

9 Best Vegan Cookie Brands

The good news, you don’t have to give up cookies as a vegan. But before you just pick up the first cookie that has a vegan label on the packaging, consider that a lot of them either lack a delicious taste or are so full of sugar and cholesterol that they should come with a health warning. In a completely selfless act, we’re happy to share the vegan cookie brands we enjoyed the most.

Best Vegan Cookies Brands

1. Uncle Eddies Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies With Walnuts

Uncle Eddies Chocolate Chip Cookies with Walnuts ($6.89 for a 12-pack of 24 cookies at Kroger Marketplace) are actually cheaper than Trader Joe’s classic version. What makes them different? The addition of walnuts. Because walnuts are high in dietary fiber, they can be a better source of healthy fats than butter. A nice creamy and chocolaty flavour is just one aspect of the cookie. To balance it out, they also contain extra chocolate chips, rolled oats, and peanut butter.

Just a note: If you’re sensitive to nuts, try subbing in the chocolate chips with a mix of granola, oats, or almond butter. By the way, it’s more than okay to substitute a bigger cup for your measuring cup! The good thing about these cookies is that they are already vegan as soon as you remove the eggs and dairy ingredients. But don’t take our word for it, you can find some very good reviews for Uncle Eddies Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies with Walnuts on the web and in the media.

Be aware that this brand of cookies is better for the environment than those made from palm oil – as they come from a vegan brand that donates a portion of its profits to animal rights groups and green projects. Uncle Eddies has eight flavours, one of which is a milk and dark chocolate version. Uncle Eddies is my favourite vegan cookie brand. I’ve tried their cookies and they are pretty amazing.

My go-to vegan cookie brand. Uncle Eddies are made by the excellent General Mills, but I haven’t tried them. I believe that they were first introduced in 1998, but they have since become one of my most common cookie brands. You can find Uncle Eddies products in most major stores around the world, and many are also available to order online.

Uncle Eddies Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies feature a gluten-free palm-oil-free shortbread base, so they’re super-tender. And when you mix in Uncle Eddies’ proprietary Coconut Almond Flour, which has a high protein and fiber content, they’re light, fluffy, and soft, with just the right amount of sweetness. This sweet vegan cookie from Uncle Eddies is super tasty and so versatile.

They come with different chocolates (chocolate, cashew, and rice milk), and I like to serve them as chocolate crinkle cookies, which is quite a difficult cookie to explain. I’m in love with the walnuts (the perfect addition to a cookie), the texture and the smooth chocolate taste. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about is the slightly dull taste of the vanilla.

The combination of chocolate and walnuts is soooo good and I can’t get enough of it. From the family that gave you Pillsbury – Uncle Eddies has had a few breakthroughs, and these vegan chocolate chip cookies are no exception. Made with coconut oil and peanut butter, these cookies have the perfect balance of coconut and chocolate. Unfussy and fantastic, they taste like a healthy version of a delicious treat.

Emmy’s Organic Macaroon Vegan Cookies

2. Emmy’s Organic Macaroon Vegan Cookies

Only includes Fair Trade macaroons, organic chocolate cookies, vegan creams, organic cocoas and organic marshmallows! Good choice to consider because the ingredients are organically sourced from ethically and sustainably managed forests and farms, and there are no additives. Emmy’s Macaroon Vegan Cookies range starts with six cookie flavours, and they don’t all contain dairy, gluten or dairy, but they do have vegan creams, creams and coconut.

We fell in love with Emmy’s Organic Macaroon Vegan Cookies and Brownies. A few years ago, they were a unique, vegan Macaron twist on a classic cookie with a nice surprise for vegan and gluten-free eaters. Every cookie we had was so good! Next to the salty nuts, they contained sweet, roasted macadamia nuts and had a slight crunch when bitten. A true vegan macaron experience.

This is when we really became fans of Emmy’s. Emmy’s has great recipes that use simple ingredients that only need to be blended for a few minutes to make delicious cookies. Emmy’s organic macaroon cookies are truly delicious and the cookie is filled with flavour and texture. Emmy's cookies use no refined sugar, honey or soy and only 100 calories per cookie, plus they’re absolutely delicious.

Emmy’s Organic Macaroon Vegan Cookies have a wonderful flavour, but you can tell it’s not from a real cookie – it’s obviously vegan. Their website doesn’t specify the flour and nuts they use, but if you look at the ingredient list, it appears that it includes cashews, almonds, and macadamia nuts, and is vegan.

Maxine’s Heavenly Vegan & Gluten-Free Cookie

3. Maxine’s Heavenly Vegan & Gluten-Free Cookie

Maxine’s Cookies come in wonderful crispy coconut and almond varieties, and they’re so vegan-friendly you can even choose the coconut oil, even if you don’t like butter. Their ingredients are limited to just three essential ones: non-dairy margarine, sugar and vanilla extract. And Maxine’s Cookies come in individual baggies too, so it’s easier to store them and pack them to travel.

There’s no question that these cookies are so easy to make too. Maxine’s isn’t new to the vegan scene, and they’re the first name that comes to mind when you want vegan cookies with some delicious flavour. They have so many varieties to choose from including:

  • peanut butter,
  • oatmeal chocolate chip,
  • salted caramel,
  • chocolate chip
  • and much more.

All of their cookies are gluten-free, vegan, and of course, wonderfully delicious! We may not be able to pick one best vegan cookie, but this is definitely the best cookie that the renowned vegan bakery Maxine’s makes. They make lots of fun and delicious vegan cookie products, such as this supremely soft gingerbread men’s shortbread cookie, as well as these classic vegan chocolate chip cookies.

We really love their flaxseed shortbread cookies and they even sell vegan chocolate chip cookie bars. Don’t miss our article on vegan Christmas cookies. The delightful angel food cookies at Maxine’s are quite different from other vegan cookies. They’re ultra-crisp and very, very tasty. In fact, these delicious cookies are the reason this list has more than 5 brands.

They truly deserve a top spot! They are available in bars, which are perfect for anyone who prefers bite-sized treats but also offer a lot of mouth-watering treats for those who prefer larger cookies. This brand offers nearly 100 different vegan and gluten-free cookie flavours – try their salty and savoury ones if you are feeling a bit adventurous! Do you love peanut butter? You must try these almond butter chocolate cookies from Maxine’s!

Lucy’s Chocolate Chip Vegan Cookies

4. Lucy’s Chocolate Chip Vegan Cookies

These vegan cookies are bursting with chocolate flavour, topped with crunchy sugar cookie crumbs, and with coconut oil as the main fat. You won’t be able to choose which cookie you want to eat first! Or you could do a blind taste test – once Lucy’s cookies are in your mouth, you won’t be able to tell them apart. Lucy’s Vegan Cookies are another favourite of ours. They are made with chia seed and oat flour and they are quite flavorful, with a great soft texture. You can buy them at Whole Foods or directly online.

Would we be crazy if we told you that Lucy’s is the most popular cookie brand on the internet? This brand is great for those of us who are nostalgic about the sweet taste of cookie dough. And just like the name suggests, Lucy’s has chocolate chips in every single cookie. The white chocolate chip cookies were a favourite too.

Good news – Lucy’s started a new vegan range of vegan chocolate chip cookies this year. If you’re looking for something moist, sweet and chewy without compromising on the vegan part, Lucy’s Chocolate Chip Vegan Cookies has a great vegan recipe. Lucy’s makes them from chocolate chip cookie dough that contains no eggs or dairy. These chocolate chip vegan cookies are healthy and chewy.

They can even be eaten with milk, ice cream or chocolate spread. If you prefer, you can replace the chocolate chips with your favourite vegan and gluten-free chocolate chip cookies. The long and the short of it is that these cookies are really, really good. Not only are they amazingly taste-free but they actually taste quite similar to the real thing! Very light and melt-in-your-mouth without being too sugary and awful in the aftertaste.

Lucy’s (which you’ll recognize from the red balloons above) is a small brand that makes 100% plant-based cookies from a base of palm fruit, cashew milk and maple syrup. The texture is really light and soft. They also have an assortment of flavours, such as Chocolate Chip, White Chocolate Raspberry, Cheesecake, Chocolate Chip Mint, and so much more. We enjoyed the original ones best but also the Raspberry Creme ones, and the Orange Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter ones were really good too.

Lenny & Larry’s The Complete Vegan Cookie

6. Lenny & Larry’s The Complete Vegan Cookie

Also known as the One Scoop Cookie, this vegan, gluten-free cookie is sweet and slightly spiced, filled with walnuts and cashews and then drizzled with chocolate and all-natural almond milk. A favourite among several vegans in our team, who unanimously called it “delicious.” For a better flavour experience, pick up a box (for 12 cookies) from your local health food store.

Lenny & Larry’s fully vegan cookies are as tasty as they are ethical and 100% free from gluten, dairy, palm oil, and trans fats. Lenny & Larry’s, maker of gluten-free and vegan cookies, is the second most popular vegan cookie brand in the U.S. Their vegan cookie set is filled with 12 whole-wheat, gluten-free, and vegan cookies, individually wrapped in mini packaging, weighing approximately 1.5 oz each.

You can choose between three different types:

  1. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip,
  2. Chocolate Caramel Macchiato, and
  3. Chocolate Almond.

You also get everything you need to bake your cookies at home in the two-layer miniature brown and tan boxes. This was my favourite package – the two-tone packaging combined with the numerous chocolate chip and macchiato flavours made it a real temptation, but once I started to taste the cookies, I couldn’t stop. Lenny & Larry’s vegan cookies taste exactly like the classic recipes. If you’ve never made a vegan cookie before, we suggest you start with this ultimate baking set.

With everything you need to create eight delicious chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin and almond toffee cookies, Lenny & Larry’s The Complete Vegan Cookie Recipe Box will become a baking staple in your pantry. You’ll be able to whip up fresh cookies in no time, adding only one or two ingredients to your pantry and no more artificial sweeteners. With the homemade chocolate chip cookies, you can make them at night and have them ready for the next day’s breakfast or snack. If you’re trying to eat more and more vegan, this is the way to go.

Lenny & Larry’s cookies were developed with the sole aim of being a vegan cookie, and have achieved this aim, to a high standard. One whole cookie is all that it takes to achieve the expected indulgence of eating six of them, without any more guilt. Lenny and Larry’s has everything you’ll need, from chocolate chip to oatmeal, oat butterscotch, and pumpkin pie. The most important thing about these cookies is their taste.

They are so soft, tasty, and addicting. I mean, come on, you can’t resist the golden goodness of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies! The best part about these cookies is that, in every box, you will find a little inspirational note about how the cookies were made. This makes the experience of making them even more authentic for the vegan cookie lover.

Smart For Life Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie

7. Smart For Life Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie

These cookies are solid and not too sweet – which is more than we can say for a lot of cookie brands. They have a nice texture and they are absolutely delicious. To keep with the sustainable feel, you can use gluten-free oats. This is one of the best vegan cookies brands you can find. It’s nutritious and very tasty. If you’re one of those people who always tend to share cookies with your friends and family,

Smart For Life is the company for you. They’ve done a great job and are definitely one of the most widely known cookie brands that have been vegan for over 10 years. What’s special is that they’ve made cookie dough using a chocolate protein powder that has no milk, whey, casein, soy, trans fats, soy lecithin, or other unnecessary ingredients and instead comes with healthy coconut butter, shredded coconut, and an assortment of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Perfect for spreading on a slice of banana bread or placing a vegan chocolate chip cookie in a mug for a quick pick-me-up. Smart for Life made an ice cream cookie of its own. You can also check out our review of the Smart for Life Cookie Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream. Smart for Life cookies are not as sweet as most cookies that are made with a combination of sugar and oil but they pack a lot of protein and nutrition.

Their Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie is my favourite of the brand’s offerings. It has plenty of chocolate flavour, and the fact that it has zero dairy and eggs is a definite plus. Well-known and well-loved among the healthy and health-conscious, Smart for Life cookies are sold at most major supermarkets in the US

Newman’s Own

8. Newman's Own

Vegan cookie dough, cookie dough filling and chocolate “cookies” are staples in Newman’s Own bakery. We liked the taste, texture and taste combination of their cookies. They are mostly vegan because of the absence of eggs and gelatin. Mmm! The most delicious vegan chocolate chip cookie ever.

Newman’s Own Organic Chocolate Chip Cookies are always fresh and always satisfying. They make your taste buds feel as though you are biting into a mouthful of milk chocolate – no milk chocolate here, though. These cookies are not your ordinary baked goods. All you need to do is add a little water and they transform into gourmet goodness. It doesn’t matter if it’s banana, strawberry, blueberry, carrot, lemon, they’re all amazing in these cookies.

There are so many varieties of vegan cookies (that’s right, we’re not mixing up our vocabulary here), from chocolate chip to peanut butter to mocha and plain, we had so much fun trying them all. I personally loved Newman’s Own because of their taste and the fact that the baking process is not that painful for me. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to baking and because I only use vegan-friendly ingredients,

it can be a bit challenging to find cookies that are similar to the ones that come in my cookie jar. Sweet Vegan Sandwiches made with Newman-Creme O's Filled Cookies. Newman-have O's a bright white cream filling encased in two characteristic black patterned wafers, just like classic Oreos. They're not simply vegan-friendly, though.

They also contain no trans fats or high fructose corn syrup and are created with organic ingredients. Newman’s Own – the biggest vegan brand on the market. All of their products are vegan, but there are so many to choose from that it is tough to stick to just one. The cream in these cookie sandwiches has a nice texture, though it's not as spreadable as Back to Nature's cream (and from my personal perspective, more flavorful).

Nana’s

9. Nana’s

Nana’s chocolate chip cookies are soft and fluffy and wrapped around a chewy crisp outside and a soft, chewy center. It can get pretty difficult to find them since they are so popular, and that’s why we’re bringing you one that tastes just like a classic chocolate chip cookie. And they’re gluten-free!

The first vegan cookie brand that gave us great feedback and became a staple in our snack bowls, Nana’s made it clear from the beginning that they aren’t going to compromise quality for a lower price. When compared to other cookies in the category, Nana’s did not compromise on taste, which is why we ranked them as best in our list of the top vegan cookie brands.

Most importantly, you can taste their impressive cookie production, because every cookie tastes amazing. Each and every Nana’s cookie has a bold and distinct flavour, which is the mark of a great vegan biscotti. You can even taste the difference when you compare their vegan chocolate chip cookies to their normal chocolate chip cookies. Nana’s Vegan Chocolate also delivers some very tasty vegan chocolate cookies and also a vast variety of raw, vegan chocolate candies.

Nana’s are a definite favourite among vegans in Melbourne, and they’re also available in New South Wales, Western Australia, the ACT and Queensland. The chocolate bars are called “nuts and bolts” and have real nuts in them, so they’re healthy and not just made out of non-dairy, lactose-filled soy milk. “We use high-quality raw cocoa butter to ensure we’re getting the best possible chocolate flavour,” says the website. “Whole nuts and seeds are used in the production of our products.”

Conclusion

There you have it. A short and concise guide to making you fall in love with cookies again. The vegan cookie brands on this list are the ones we’ve tried and loved the most. However, we should stress that there’s no right or wrong choice. Each brand differs in flavour and nutrition. It’s really a matter of personal taste and budget. And you don’t have to limit yourself to cookies.

Just because cookies are our favourite vegan cookie and the hardest to make, doesn’t mean you have to only buy vegan cookies. There’s a whole world of vegan baked goods you can indulge in, like bakery, cupcakes and pie.

They all taste delicious and are just as tasty as their animal-based counterparts. Let us be honest, there are definitely things you can do as a vegan to stay happy, healthy, and in shape. And if these cookies help, it’s a bonus.
