18 Delicious Vegan Mug Cake Recipes For Your Kids
18 Delicious Vegan Mug Cake Recipes For Your Kids
If you've never prepared a mug cake, you probably ask yourself, “What the heck is a mug cake!?”
A mug cake is a single-serving cake baked in the microwave in a mug—the greatest innovation of all time! Mug cakes are popular because they're simple to make and serve.
You don't want to have to get out all your baking supplies, let alone create an entire cake when you want cake.
Are Vegan Cakes Good For Your Kids?
Vegan cakes are similar to any other cake in that they are a treat to be enjoyed in moderation. You might wonder if vegan cakes are healthier than non-vegan cakes.
For the most part, no; while the absence of butter may result in lower saturated fat levels, the vegan-friendly substitute, commonly cocoa butter, may have similar saturated fat levels.
So, while vegan cakes are lower in calories than dairy-based ones, they often contain a lot of sugar, so even if they are healthier, they aren't exactly one of your five daily.
And that's perfectly fine! If we could eat cake daily, it would quickly lose its allure.
Vegan Mug Cake Recipes
Now I'll share some easy Vegan Mug Cake Recipes and delicious ways to satisfy our sweet craving!
1. Vanilla Vegan Mug Cake
Prep time: 3 minutes | Cook time: 2 minutes | Total time: 5 minutes | Servings: 1
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 4 tablespoons
- White granulated sugar: 2 tablespoons
- Baking powder: ¼ teaspoon
- Salt: ⅛ teaspoon
- Soy milk or other non-dairy milk: 3 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil: 2 tablespoons
- Vanilla extract: ½ teaspoon
Method
- Combine all-purpose flour, white granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a mug.
- Combine the soy milk, canola oil, and vanilla essence in a batter. Don't overmix, but ensure everything is integrated by scraping the sides and bottom of the mug.
- Microwave for 90 seconds on high in a microwave-safe dish. The top should appear set and finished, with the edges pulling away from the sides.
- Allow to cool completely before adding sprinkles and vegan whipped cream (optional).
2. Chocolate Chip Vegan Mug Cake
Prep time: 5 minutes | Cook time: 2 minutes | Total time: 7 minutes | Servings: 1
Ingredients
- Coconut oil: ½ tablespoon
- Vanilla extract: ½ teaspoon
- Maple or agave syrup: 1 tablespoon
- Vegan protein powder: ¼ cup
- Almond flour: 1 tablespoon
- Arrowroot starch: 1 tablespoon
- Almond milk: 2 tablespoons
- Baking powder: ¼ teaspoon
- Vegan chocolate chips: 2 tablespoons
Method
- Gather all your ingredients and any other ingredients you want to include in your cupcake recipe.
- Whisk or spatula the ingredients in a small mixing basin until a smooth batter develops. Before transferring the batter to the microwave-safe container, coat it with coconut oil or cooking spray. Add any other toppings or mix-ins you want.
- Bake for 1 minute and 15 seconds in the microwave until done! Then have fun!
3. Peanut Butter Vegan Mug Cake
Prep time: 5 minutes | Cook time: 5 minutes | Total time: 10 minutes | Servings: 1
Ingredients
- Flour: 3 teaspoons
- Sugar: 2 tablespoons
- Baking powder: 1 teaspoon
- Vegan milk: 3 teaspoons
- Creamy peanut butter: 2 teaspoons
Method
- In a 10 oz mug, combine flour, sugar, and baking powder. Add the milk and mix well. Stir in the peanut butter (it's fine if the batter is lumpy).
- Microwave the mug on a paper plate or a paper towel. Microwave for 60 to 70 seconds on high. When you poke the cake, it will rise and spring back slightly.
- Microwave in 10-second increments if it hasn't risen to the top edge of the mug. If you microwave the cake for too long, it will become rubbery. Allow for cooling for at least 2 minutes.
4. Chocolate Vegan Mug Cake
Prep time: 5 minutes | Cook time: 1 minute | Total time: 6 minutes | Servings: 1
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 2 tablespoons
- Vegan cocoa powder: 2 tablespoons
- Granulated sugar: 2 tablespoons
- Salt: ⅛ teaspoon
- Baking powder: ¼ teaspoon
- Coconut oil: 1 tablespoon
- Non-dairy milk: 3 tablespoons
- Pure vanilla extract: ½ teaspoon
- Dairy-free chocolate chips: 2 tablespoons
Method
- Combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a cup. To combine the ingredients, stir or whisk them together.
- In the cup with the dry ingredients, pour the oil, non-dairy milk, and vanilla extract and stir thoroughly with a spoon. On top, sprinkle the chocolate chunks.
- Cook for 40 seconds in the microwave. It will probably be slightly undercooked in the center, which is fine with me, but if you want it to be more cooked, microwave it for another 10-20 seconds.
- Serve right away.
5. Banana Bread Vegan Mug Cake
Prep time: 4 minutes | Cook time: 1 minute | Total time: 5 minutes | Servings: 1
Ingredients
- Mashed bananas: ⅓ cup
- Oil: 1 tablespoon

- Raw brown sugar: 1 tablespoon
- All-purpose flour: 3 tablespoons
- Baking powder: ½ teaspoon
- Pinch of sea salt
- Pinch of ground cinnamon
- Chocolate chips: 1 tablespoon
Method
- Combine the mashed banana, oil, milk, and sugar in a mug. For around 30 seconds, whisk together until combined and the banana is completely mashed. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a mixing dish.
- Stir for another 20 seconds to ensure it's fully incorporated, and be careful to get the bottoms. If using, fold in the nuts and chocolate chips. Sprinkle some of them on top if you'd like.
- Microwave for approximately 80 seconds. It's fine if it's undercooked; it'll finish cooking as it cools. It's preferable to have it slightly undercooked rather than overcooked. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool for 3 minutes.

- Flour: 3 tablespoons
- Brown sugar: 3 tablespoons
- Unsweetened cocoa powder: 3 tablespoons
