This way of eating also includes plenty of nuts, seeds, sprouted whole grains and legumes.

As our understanding of our food and its health, environmental, social, and political implications increase, more of us turn to plant-based lifestyles. Within this realm, however, there are many ways in which we can express a plant-based lifestyle. One of these is a raw vegan dietary approach.

I choose organic fruit and vegetables whenever possible because they are not sprayed with fungicides and pesticides.

I also love vegetables like tomatoes, peppers (I prefer the yellow or orange ones), cucumbers, spinach, kale, all types of lettuce, etc.

I am growing many different fresh herbs in my garden, like basil, cilantro, dill, mint, oregano, parsley, and rosemary which I add to salads and vegetable smoothies and soups.

We drink lemon or lime water, orange juice, celery juice, and other vegetable juices on a daily basis.

One other important item is pure water. It is important to drink lots of water, especially if you want to lose weight.

Once in a while, I have an avocado or some raw nuts and seeds. You might want to hold off with them until you reach your ideal weight.


Foods To Avoid

On a raw vegan diet you want to avoid traditional foods that commonly form part of a western diet, such as:

  • All animal-derived products like meat, poultry, fish, seafood, dairy, eggs, honey, and gelatine.
  • All pickled foods: Sourkraut, cornichons, onions, artichoke hearts, olives, and sun dried tomatoes.
  • Sugar, salt, processed spices and herbs.
  • Vegetables that need to be cooked: Potatoes, green beans, squash, and pumpkins.
  • Baked goods: Buns, bread, crackers, cookies, cakes and pies.
  • Legumes and soy products.
  • Pasta, rice, potato, and cereals.
  • All other processed or pre-cooked foods you can buy in the grocery store.

In short, foods to avoid are all cooked, baked, processed, pickled, or any other types of altered products.
