How To Lose Weight On A Raw Vegan Diet

This could be why. So you’ve been on a raw vegan diet for some time now, but you’re not losing any weight. Maybe you’re even putting on weight. This, of course, is perfectly fine if that was your intention, but what if you were hoping to lose a few pounds? So before you give up or become disheartened, here’s something to think about.

A standard weight-loss recommendation is to eat more vegetables, so eating a diet that consists only of raw plant foods seems like the ideal way to drop pounds. A raw vegan diet consists of non-animal foods, with 75 to 80 percent raw fruit and vegetables and 20 to 25% of raw nuts and seeds.

Raw food dieters maintain that cooking destroys important enzymes in food, so eating raw optimizes your nutrient intake. A raw vegan diet, fruit and vegetables, raw nuts and seeds, sprouted grains, and herbs are your choices for eating.

What Is A Raw Vegan Diet All About?

To put it simply, the raw vegan diet is a vegan diet, that for all intents and purposes, is raw. Meaning that food is eaten in its natural state, that cooking methods are not used and that dairy is avoided. Despite the huge benefits of a raw vegan diet, it can be difficult to follow, and the maintenance of that diet can be challenging due to peer pressure.

However, most raw vegans can sustain a healthy diet within a given time. In my experience, I’ve found that it’s not always the diet itself that’s the problem, but often simply a case of following the diet too strict or eating certain foods that don’t quite fit within it.

Simply put, raw vegan diets are based on consuming food that has not been heated. For example, vegetables are fully cooked during the cooking process, so they must be consumed raw. If you feel that you do not have much experience cooking or that the standard methods of cooking food on a non-raw vegan diet may be unsuitable for you, you may want to follow a raw vegan diet instead.

Many raw vegans become accustomed to eating raw food after just a few weeks of following the diet. The other reason raw vegan diets are growing in popularity is that they tend to keep you feeling fuller for longer. The benefits of eating a raw vegan diet include weight loss, a loss of fat and cellulite, and a leaner appearance. Raw vegan dieters can also get away with smaller portions and more frequent meals.

I am on a raw vegan diet during the summer months myself, and I thoroughly enjoy it. There are so many delicious fruits, like melons, pineapple, bananas, apples and berries, you can eat, let alone the delicious raw salads you can make with a lemon juice herb dressing. It is an absolutely delicious diet.

How To Follow A Raw Vegan Diet

Why Should We Follow A Raw Vegan Diet?

Because a raw vegan diet does not include any fattening meats, dairy, cheese and ice cream, or butter, oils, etc., eating a raw vegan diet requires less eating and can be more efficient calorie-wise, there are no pastries or unhealthy snacks around, and you have no cravings for sweets either.

You are allowed to eat all the fruit and vegetables you like, and I promise you will be full. Plus, if you ever get bored of the same foods, you can change it up by mixing things up each day. If you want to lose weight as quickly as possible, you can also choose to eat five or even six small meals per day and don't forget the fitness.

So instead of having a large lunch or dinner, you have a light snack. For example, try doing a pineapple/strawberry or watermelon smoothie for breakfast. You can always eat a delicious and crunchy apple when you get hungry in the afternoon.

You can expect many health benefits from a raw vegan diet. You will reduce the risk of diseases which you get if you are eating animal products. In addition, you will burn fat more efficiently.

The answer to this question is quite simple, and it’s quite hard to explain without you experiencing it yourself. But here it is in simple words:

Health Benefits of a Raw Vegan Diet:

Risks of A Raw Vegan Diet

Would you mind consulting your health care professional before starting this diet?

When you start with a raw vegan diet, you might experience problems with the gut. After adopting a raw vegan diet, your digestive system may not function normally until it gets used to getting nutritious raw foods. This could cause problems in the form of stomachaches or diarrhea.

That's why I suggest you start slowly. Start your day with lemon juice: Squeeze one lemon into 32 oz (~1 litre) of water. Drink this when you get up. Then maybe follow this with some delicious fruit. Then for lunch, eat some delicious salads, or you can steam broccoli and cauliflower. For dinner, you eat what you are used to.

Carbohydrates are the largest staple in the standard American diet. Raw vegan dieters avoid all cooked and processed food like white potatoes, bread, and rice instead of fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Please note that avocados, nuts and seeds contain a lot of fat and protein, so please take it easy with them to lose weight.

Fruit and vegetables are eaten raw, and our bodies can take full advantage of all the nutrients in raw produce. For example, the nutritional value of leafy greens is at its fullest when eaten raw. I usually make a mixed salad with leafy greens.

Now, some people might say that “raw vegetables are not in their prime form, so they recommend eating cooked vegetables instead.” In my opinion, this is totally wrong and old school.

Studies show that when we cook vegetables, they lose 90% of their nutrients. The valuable vitamins and minerals are dissolved into the water we use for cooking. Should you decide to use the microwave, that's even worse. The cooked foods have no nutrients left.

And they also insist that “animal fat is widely recognized as the best source of essential nutrients.” Wrong again. There are also many studies out there that prove that animal products like meat, dairy and eggs are bad for our health, the environment and especially the animals which are cruelly abused.

“It's not an exaggeration to say that, in general, the best-tasting foods are also the most nutritious.” Bingo! This is correct! Raw fruits are delicious and boast of nutrients. Pictures this: “Take a golden yellow pineapple, some bright red delicious strawberries and add a few lusciously green mint leaves, blend them, and you have an absolutely delicious smoothie.

So the raw vegan diet is not without its risks. While many of these risks are extremely unlikely to impact your weight loss program, others can become problematic. However, the risk of these problems is minor, and it is not worth taking unnecessary risks if it means giving up on the raw vegan diet.

In my experience, a raw vegan diet contains all the nutrients you need. Some people might want to add some vegan Omega-3 and other supplements.

How To Follow A Raw Vegan Diet

Eating a diet that consists only of uncooked foods is difficult for some people, but it doesn’t have to be. The basics of a raw vegan diet will help you avoid most of the pitfalls of following such a diet. First, eat a variety of nutrient-dense whole foods. Avoiding all cooked foods ensures you get the full nutritional value of all plant foods, so it’s essential to try to include a wide variety of fruit and vegetables in your daily diet.

For the first few weeks, you’ll probably feel hungry and probably experience some cravings for certain types of food. However, the raw vegan diet eliminates processed foods and refined sugars, so you won’t have these easy-to-replace foods to fall back on. When I have a sugar craving, I eat 1 or 2 deliciously ripe bananas. They are sweet and healthy.

Also, although you can technically follow any diet, the Raw Vegan diet is the easiest to follow. Of course, it can be very accommodating if you follow the diet within the raw vegan diet handbook parameters, but that’s not the article's point. The point is that if you take the time to stick to the rules (don’t eat out, drink pure water, eat a lot of raw fruit), you can actually do very well with a raw vegan diet.

Here are some of the key aspects of a raw vegan diet, with a little more detail. First, avoid eating foods that aren’t raw. This includes any packaged, canned, or cooked foods, any prepared foods made from eggs, fish, poultry, pork, beef, other animals, or any dairy products.

How To Lose Weight With A Raw Vegan Diet

To lose weight on a raw vegan diet, you need to consume lots of low-carb fruits and vegetables. The key to eating a raw vegan diet is to remain as active as possible. If you’re not a morning person, get up a little earlier to get your cardio workout in before eating your daily raw breakfast.

A daily cardio workout will boost your metabolism, helping you burn calories at a faster pace and consume fewer calories throughout the day. Also, avoid eating cooked foods. Would you please not skip the veggies because they’re your body’s main source of fibre? Carbs and fats can slow your metabolism down, so eliminate both in your diet.

Also, while the raw vegan diet is plant-based, it is essential to stay active during the day. Go for long walks, do some gardening, do some yoga or any other form of fitness.

I know that some people tell you to make sure you include enough protein in your diet. To my knowledge, our body's need for protein is low. Please check out what raw vegan athletes worldwide.

Raw Vegan Diet Advantages And Disadvantages

Raw Vegan Diet Advantages And Disadvantages

When you stick to a raw vegan diet, there are several benefits that you’ll be getting in return. The raw vegan diet has been proven to have many health benefits and will allow you to achieve and maintain your ideal weight. Here are some advantages of the raw vegan diet. First, you’ll be feeling great.

The raw vegan diet is a healthy way to live, and you’ll notice how energized you will feel after eating one of their delicious smoothies. By sticking to this diet, you’ll also lose a good amount of weight, get more energy and become happier. It can also increase your energy levels significantly. It contains all the nutrients you need. Did you know that raw food is actually good for your teeth and gums?

One of the major reasons that raw vegan dieters believe that they lose weight is the increase in the production of the “feel-good” chemical endorphins in their bodies. Endorphins suppress appetite, helping to prevent cravings, boost energy levels, helping you stay motivated to eat healthier.

Because raw foods are inherently nutrient-rich, which come from the soil and other plant sources, a raw vegan diet provides you with the highest nutrient density possible. In addition, because these nutrient-dense foods are usually unprocessed, they retain their nutritional value, contributing to weight loss.

But what about the possible risks of the raw vegan diet? There are, of course, risks associated with any diet. Raw food dieters describe their meals as tasting differently because of the absence of cooking.

As a result, many raw food dieters experience a loss in flavour and end up eating many things they’re not in the mood for. Some may also experience stomach cramps and indigestion from the strict fruit and vegetable eating regimen.

To avoid this problem, I make sure I always have a wide variety of raw fruits and vegetables in my fridge or pantry. This way, I can eat what I feel like. I personally noticed that I tend to eat a lot more fruits and fewer veggies. The reason for that is that raw fruits taste delicious. Raw vegetables can be boring, so I usually make a mixed salad with a lemon avocado dressing.

The last point is that gaining weight on a raw vegan diet isn’t only conjecture. It’s reality. But, there is some good news if you have been struggling to lose weight on a raw vegan diet. First, there’s a lot of evidence that suggests that the type of fat you consume has a significant impact on how much weight you lose.

Foods To Eat

Raw vegan meals typically consist of unprocessed plant foods and uncooked fruits, vegetables and greens such as spinach, kale and chard.

This is a straightforward rule: “You can eat all fruit and vegetables which taste good raw.” I personally eat lots of fruit, like apple, grapefruit, pomegranate, pineapple, melons, bananas, persimmons, and berries. I choose organic fruit and vegetables because they are not sprayed with fungicides and pesticides.

I also love vegetables like tomatoes, peppers (I prefer the yellow or orange ones), cucumbers, spinach, kale, all types of lettuce, etc.

I also have many fresh herbs in my garden, which I add to salads and vegetable smoothies.

Once in a while, I have an avocado or some raw nuts. Would you please not overdo it while you are losing weight?

One other important item is pure water. It is important to drink lots of water, especially if you want to lose weight.

Foods To Avoid

You'll have to avoid traditional foods that commonly form part of a western diet, such as:

  • All animal-derived products like meat, fish, dairy, eggs, honey, and gelatine.
  • Sugar, salt, processed spices and herbs.
  • Vegetables that need to be cooked: Potatoes, green beans, squash, and pumpkins.
  • Baked goods: Bread, crackers, cookies, cakes and pies.
  • Legumes and soy products.
  • Pasta and rice.
  • All other processed foods you can buy in the grocery store.

In short, foods to avoid are all cooked, baked, processed or any other form of altered products.

Conclusion

A raw vegan diet is a dietary choice that can be a benefit for weight loss. Since the human body doesn't digest cooked plants and animal-based foods, a raw vegan diet can be very healthy and nutritionally complete.

You might want to be mindful of the quantities of avocados, nuts and seeds you eat. They are high in calories. Having said that, this is not a problem if you lead an active life.
